Understanding Trauma Brain: The Book, The Podcast, and What Comes Next

This entry is part 14 of 18 in the series Announcements

If you’ve ever felt like your brain just doesn’t work the way other people’s seem to—especially after surviving long-term stress, abuse, or instability—you’re not alone, and you’re not imagining it.

Trauma Brain: Acquired Neurodivergence and Complex Traumatic Stress is a book for people like us—those living with the real, embodied, long-haul effects of complex trauma. It’s not about fixing yourself. It’s about understanding what’s actually happening in your nervous system, your cognition, your energy, and your sense of time and connection.

In this first episode of the Trauma Brain podcast, I share a bit of my story, what led me to write this book, and why I think it matters that we stop talking about trauma recovery like it’s a return to “normal.” For many of us, this is normal—and what we need are new tools, new language, and a new path forward.
